Our Motorcycle Trip

We left on a beautiful Friday morning from Grand
Rapids. Leaving Friday was myself on a '79 XS650 SF, Ed on an 02
SV650, Curt on '84 Nighthawk 650, and Cal on an early 82 CB650. We
met at my house, went to the truck stop for breakfast, and took off. We
took M-37 north from Grand Rapids to M- something-or-other which
took us to Manistee and US-23. That was a great ride: up and down,
through curves, woods, fields and small towns along the eastern shore of
Lake Michigan. We had lunch in Arcadia , then continued on to and
through Traverse City (stopping for gas and a few great views).
We met Mat on a '93 Sportster 1200, Mike on an '81
CB750, and Mark on an '04 VTX1300 at Indian River, which is about 30 miles
south of the bridge Friday evening. They had to work Friday, so instead
of taking the scenic route up, they took interstate and we met in the evening
at the motel. We had some supper (pizza) and a few coldies to
celebrate our trip, took in some of the night life (some chicks asking us
what was going on and where the action was) and watched some volunteer firemen
crash their truck into the station garage. After that excitment, we
finally crashed for a night's sleep.
Saturday morning we left Indian River, had breakfast
in Mackinac City, and crossed the bridge. In the UP we stopped
at several places, including the Mystery Spot (photo op), the Cut River
Gorge, Taquammenon Falls (both Upper and Lower), Whitefish Point, and supper
at Antler's in Sault Ste. Marie. Here is where we parted ways- Mat
and Mark on through Canada around Lake Huron and the rest of us back home.
We drove straight through the night and after leaving
my bike on the side of the highway (flat tire) about 40 miles north of Grand
Rapids, we arrived home about 3 am. We drove the last few hours in
the rain at night, which really wasn't a big deal. It scared me pretty
good at first, but once you got used to it it was pretty cool. Something
to brag about if nothing else I guess. We really could have stopped,
but everyone was ready and eager to keep going- sometimes you get in the
"I can ride forever" mood, and we had it that night.
Anyway, here's some pictures from our trip courtesy
of myself, Cal, and Curt...
By the way- if any of you guys from the trip want to
add pics or add info email me and I
can do it. I figure this is for all of us...
