Iceman Course - Excerpt from www.iceman.com

Starting at the Kalkaska Middle School, the Subaru Iceman trail consists of dead-flat paved roads (first 2 miles), dirt roads, two tracks (the majority of the course), abandoned railroad beds, and the world famous Vasa Nordic ski trail. Approximately 27 miles long, the course crosses only one paved road (Williamsburg Rd. at mile 16) as it winds through the breath taking terrain of the Pere Marquette State Forest in Northwestern Lower Michigan. Course highlights include "Steve’s Secret", "Lombard’s Luge," "Cassle Cliffs," and "Ice Breaker" (the last hill to climb). The finish line at Timber Ridge, just east of Traverse City, will be a welcome sight to all Icemen and Icewomen. The course can be best described as a road race on dirt.

That's my back...really, it is...as I ride past to the right at the Millersburg Rd. crossing approximately 17 miles in to the race. In all fairness, our volunteer photographer hadn't used our camera before, and was caught off guard by the camera's "Auto Shutoff" feature, causing the delayed shot. (11/02/2002)

Mira's checking out daddy's bike post-race. Just a few more years until she'll be racing with me. (11/02/2002)

Post-race dinner with the Gardners (DeWain, Erinn & Pam). Oops...had I noticed the placement of Mira's finger, I would have had the photo re-taken. (11/02/2002)
