Well I was dilated for several weeks and my DR was worried baby might get too big so she planned to induce me on Thursday but changed it to Wednesday. My whole experience was not pleasant. First off they could not find a good vein so I had to have the IV in my neck. (this of course took almost 2 hours and five stabbings) They started me on pitocin1 and things were moving along. By 7:30 that night I was in a really good labor pattern. I decided to ask for stadol2 at 5cm and by time an 1/2 hour passed I wanted the epidural3. By the time that came I was in pain let me tell you. I started to swear at everyone--my dh4 and sister said they never heard the f*** word so much. I got the epidural and it sorta worked for about 1 hour--it just made the pain bearable but b/c I was able to relax I made it to 9 1/2 cm in that time so they called my dr---this is when it got bad--the epidural quit working and I was having chart topping contractions every other minute for 4 hours and would not dilate that last 1/2 cm. Finally they gave me the medicine for a c-section and it helped enough to dilate that last 1/2 cm. I pushed for 2 hours --which was not bad. My baby girl came out 24 hours after starting. She is perfect. Her apgars5 were 8&9. She was 8#11 oz and 22 in long. She latched on within an hour after having her. I am on semi bed rest b/c I had problems with bleeding. I was told that my hemoglbin was so low I may need a transfusion. I kept bleeding all day--I guess one of the many clots(this is gross) was the size of a small cantaloupe. And I almost passed out 2 times b/c of the blood loss. I am home now on 3 iron pills daily and am not allowed to be by myself or carry my precious Sasha Ann!!! But her sweet face makes everything ok!!!!
1 Used to induce labor.
2 Used to "take the edge off" labor pains.
3 Allegedly numbs pain from the waist down.
