Team WMSS at the NATS

Arrived Muncie, IN

July 27, 2008 about 3pm went to field and saw many old friends from previous Nats. WMSS members there were  Harry DeBoer, Dennis Hoyle, Larry Jeffery, Troy Lawicki (and kids), Johnny Berlin, Ed Whyte, Jack Wallner and John Winstanley.  Martin doney showed up on Thursday just to work as landing judge.

You see Troy right repairing Jack Wallner's Pike Perfect.

Our pit area at the field.  Thanks to Marc Gellart it was close to impound and winches.

John checked his Duck and it was 1/4" over 2 meters so had to cut tips so it would be legal.

.

Pilots meeting.  "Signup for Teams before end of first round"

John Winstanley, Cal Posthuma, and Dennis Hoyle with our Team WMSS shirts looking for lift before we start the round.  They would be 6 min then the rest were 10 min for 13 round total.

Out to the winches when your called.  John was early call.

LSF now has a trailer to store all its winches and other equipment.  It is left at AMA site.

Planes parked ready to fly.  Weather was clearing after morning sprinkle.

Ducks took 5 places in top 10, Larry Jeffery was 11th with his Duck.

Ducks RULE!

Marna and crew run a tight efficient impound.  "get that PIN back here NOW!"

JR is most prevalent radio, many Stylus still there.

Spread Spectrum coming on strong.

Where did we place?

about 65 entries with 60 with scores

Lots of LSF points

The third day was RES and it dawned windy??

Many admired the new Sailaire. After two rounds the wind was too high for the Sailaire so John and I retired to the AMA museum.

Dennis and Jean in Michigan group area.  Adam Lawicki on tarp was 2nd in Two Meter and his Dad was first.

Bob Robinson under tent also and got 11th.

Generous landing area.  Over fence 0 flight, 180 turn after white tip cones 0 landing, 100" tapes.  This was a tough landing!

12 landings areas with max ten per flight with two spares.  they all worked well.

Groups through K in Unlimited

NO pop off just short launches!

Last event and it counts for our Team status.  With our finishes in Two Meter we have a chance.  Cal 7the, Dennis 9th and John 28.

John is taking a breather above.  He did 48 launches in 5 days.

Weather was windy again so would be tough flying.

Our planes await the start. All rounds are 10 min and I am up early.

John was flying a Fusion and yellow Artemis.  I was flying an Eraser Xtreme and red white blueArtemis.

You can change models anytime.

Deb was our cheerleader helping with food, planes and advice.

Hat was a hit.

Massive unlimited plane parking area.

Staging area just before winches.  John is turning plane on and we are doing check on switches and trims.

Most planes are Pike Perfects or Supras.

Cal ended up 30th, Dennis 31st, and John 51st.

We would not find out how are Team did until the banquet tonight.

Troy would get the Hi Johnson for highest score in Two meter and Unlimited.

I could not have done it without John Winstanley driving, timing, putting planes together and launching.

He also kept me full of Gatoraid and water.

A special thanks also to John Diniz who gave me a JR 10x Trasmitter for my next plane a Shadow which is coming in the mail.

Nice Banquet!
