Using Netscape 3.0 E-mail

To view an e-mail message:

Click on the message you want to view. It should appear in the gray, bottom portion of the window. Use the up and down arrows on the scroll bar to view the message. Click on the Print button if you want to send a message to the printer. To make the gray window bigger, click and hold down on the line between the gray and white windows. Note: Your cursor will look like a double arrow on top of an equals sign. Now, drag the line up to make your window bigger. We recommend that you maximize your e-mail window for best viewing.

Note: When you enter Netscape Mail, the program will check the server for any new messages.

Tip: If you leave Netscape mail and continue to cruise the Internet, the program will check the server for new messages every 10 minutes. If it locates a new message, an exclamation mark (!) will appear next to the envelope icon. To change the default time, go to Options, Mail and News Preferences, and Servers.


To add people in the address book:

  1. Get into Netscape Mail (by clicking on the envelope icon).
  2. Click on Window (from the menu).
  3. Click on Address (from the drop down menu).
  4. Click on Item (from the menu).
  5. Click on Add User (from the drop down menu).
  6. Fill in the name and e-mail address fields and then click on OK.
  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 until you have everybody you want in your address book.
  8. Close the address book window. To do this, click on File (from the menu) and Close (from the drop down menu).

To send an e-mail message:

  1. Get into Netscape Mail (by clicking on the envelope icon).
  2. Click on the To:Mail button.
  3. Type in the e-mail address in the mail to box of the person you want to send a message to.
    Note: If the e-mail address is in the address book, you can do the following instead of typing the e-mail address:
  4. Type a subject in the subject box.
  5. Type your message in the big, white box.
    Note: If you want to send a file with your e-mail message, do the following:
  6. Send your message, click on the Send button.

To reply to a message that has been sent to you:

Make sure you have selected the message you want to reply to. It should appear in the gray box. Click on the Re:Mail button. Type in your message and click on Send.


To take a message that has been sent to you, and forward/send it to another person:

Make sure you have selected the message you want to forward. It should appear in the gray box. Click on the Forward button. Follow steps 3 through 6 of sending an e-mail message.


To erase a message:

  1. Select the message to be deleted.
  2. Hit the Delete key from the keyboard.

Note: This only moves the message to the trash folder.


To empty the trash folder:

  1. Click on File (from the menu).
  2. Click on Empty Trash Folder (from the drop down menu).

Moving an e-mail message from one folder to another:

  1. Click and hold down on the e-mail message you want to move.
  2. Drag the message to the folder you want to move it to.

Tip: To open a folder, just click once on the folder you want to view.
